Where Miller finds a lover and al-Nabulsi counts booty, the Yoruba understanding of Yemoja reads the fish as a sign of the great mother of rivers and streams. She is the source from which the others came, maternal support, water as what carries and receives. To dream of fish here is to feel that pull — being held and nurtured. But the water has another face: dissolving into someone else’s will, the undertow that draws you back to the source.
